Why more Coimbatore residents are choosing international holidays
India’s domestic travel market has seen a boom in value-for-money international holidays in 2026. According to the TBO Academy’s research (retrieved 2026-09), Thailand, the US, Singapore, and Sri Lanka are the most popular overseas destinations among Indian tourists this year due to their affordability and connectivity. What makes Coimbatore different from other regional cities is that it has witnessed an especially high demand from non-metro travellers. At the Skål International India National Congress in Coimbatore in August 2026, many industry leaders remarked that over 60% of India’s emerging travel demand is from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This drove the Skål congress to Coimbatore for the first time in its history. (Source: TalkWalk India, retrieved 2026-09)
This has led to travel agencies, airlines, and even destination countries being more receptive to the specific needs of Coimbatore residents. International tour packages from Coimbatore are now more competitive in terms of price and convenience.
Direct and connecting flight options from Coimbatore
When it comes to international travel, the cost of a flight ticket is usually the single largest expense. That makes it important to understand what international and domestic connecting flights are available from Coimbatore International Airport (CJB).
Direct international flights from Coimbatore:
- Singapore (Scoot Airlines): ~4h45m, currently the longest nonstop flight from CJB (Source: Aerocorner, retrieved 2026-09)
- Sharjah (Air Arabia)
- Abu Dhabi (IndiGo): launched this year and currently has 3 weekly flights from CJB (Source: IndiaSeaTradeNews, retrieved 2026-09)
However, for most international destinations, including Thailand, Malaysia, Bali, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the US, most Coimbatore residents have to take connecting flights. The connecting airport will usually be Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, or Delhi, depending on the destination and availability. Local industry bodies have been lobbying for more direct international flights from Coimbatore. In a recent letter to the civil aviation ministry, airlines such as AirAsia, FlyDubai, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, and Thai Airways requested to include Coimbatore as a destination on their network. However, Coimbatore currently has no “destination code” in bilateral aviation agreements, which restricts the number of foreign airlines that can operate here. Until then, to reduce international tour package cost from Coimbatore, you should book connecting flights as far ahead as possible. Prices tend to rise sharply 6-8 months ahead of departure. (Source: RatePunk, retrieved 2026-09)

How to plan a budget-friendly international tour package
As you can see, there are plenty of affordable options to plan an international holiday from Coimbatore. What separates a good budget tour package from a bad one, however, are a handful of important considerations that most first-time international travellers often ignore. Here are some tips on how to create an international tour package from Coimbatore on a budget.
Book 6-8 months ahead
As mentioned previously, Coimbatore flight prices tend to increase substantially closer to the departure date. To get the best deal on international tour packages from Coimbatore, you should book 6-8 months ahead of your planned departure date. This will also give you ample time to secure cheaper domestic flights to the connecting airport.
Travel in January-February, if possible
Domestic ticket prices from Coimbatore tend to be cheapest in the January-February timeframe. Additionally, most international destinations have good weather in this period and are less crowded than during the peak season.
Go for fixed-departure, group packages, if possible
If your travel dates are flexible, you may want to consider fixed-departure group packages that have a lower per-person cost than private tours. Essentially, the more people that share the cost of transport, guides, and other expenses, the cheaper it is per traveller.
Check the entry requirements for your chosen destination
Visa requirements should be a crucial consideration when choosing an international tour package from Coimbatore. Some countries allow Indians to enter without a visa, while others offer visa-on-arrival facilities. As of the 2026 Henley Passport Index update, Indians have visa-free access or visa-on-arrival options in more than 55 countries. (Source: Gulf News, retrieved 2026-09)
Purchase travel insurance
Many international tour packages from Coimbatore exclude travel insurance, leaving the traveller to bear the expense of emergency medical treatment. Even if you’re going on a “visa-free” holiday, it’s best to purchase travel insurance that covers emergency medical evacuation at the minimum. It will almost certainly be the most affordable item in your international tour package from Coimbatore.
Ask about what add-ons are included
When comparing international tour packages from Coimbatore, it’s a good idea to ask what additional expenses, such as airport transfers and local excursions, are covered by the package or not. Sometimes, a cheaper-sounding package can end up being more expensive once you factor in extra costs.
